Transitioning from struggling with aging to riding your journey with pride, self-esteem, confidence and joy!

When you are around your 70s, you might notice some changes in your body. Maybe a bit more stiffness in the mornings, feeling some aches, pains and/or other issues you never felt before. Maybe feeling a bit more vulnerable, feelings of anxiety and/or loneliness are creeping around the corner?

In our search for comfort, we might not always take the best approach to get us out of these feelings. However, just noticing is already a first step for change.

Spending time on our yoga mat is not just about exercising, gaining strength and flexibility. For me, it is so much more. I’ve changed my breathing pattern, I’ve developed body and mind awareness, and after a few minutes on my mat, my body responds with a few big yawns, which is an indication that my nervous system is starting to relax.

I’ve learned to transform from struggling with my aging journey to riding this journey with pride, self-esteem, confidence and joy, and I’m eager to share my experience and knowledge with you.

This doesn’t mean that I can solve all your physical and mental problems; the only one who can make changes happen is you. What it does mean is that we can make a lot of improvements to our situation, with awareness we can develop more strength and resilience, prevent injuries, and we can learn to find joy in even the smallest things, as long as we allow ourselves to see these.

ABOUT ME

Welcome to my website. I’m Mary and as a Yoga Teacher (500hrs) and a TRE™ (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) I'm passionate to share my knowledge about the effects of aging and improvements we can make to live our lives as fully and joyful as possible, physically, mentally and emotionally.

I'm Dutch and I feel blessed to live partly in the Netherlands and partly in the Scottish Highlands, where my husband’s ancestors came from. We live our lives fully and are grateful for the miracles that crossed our path. Through yoga and TRE™ I've built flexibility, strength and resilience to guide me along obstacles I’ve met in life.

After completing my Master's in Sociology in 1991, I was drawn to a more Eastern way of thinking and started to study Chinese language, culture and literature. I completed this with a Master in 2006. During my studies I started to practise Yoga and fell in love with it, I then joined a 500-hr yoga teacher training at the Yoga Academy Netherlands in Amsterdam, which I completed with a certificate in 2015 and as such I am a member of the Dutch Yoga Association. I've joined many yoga workshops and trainings on several subjects like face yoga, pelvic floor, breast care, fascia, relaxing the nervous system etc. In February 2024 I received my certification on Yoga for Posture Improvement and in December 2025 I've completed a Yoga Nidra training.

Since 2024 I work as a certified TRE™ (trauma & tension release) provider. I've experienced that this method really helps to face our daily challenges.

I’m curious and excited to meet you!

Mindful Aging, practise yoga respecting our body

"You're as old as your spine is flexible”, an ancient yogi quote which reveals a lot of our physical well-being when we’re getting older, but that’s not the whole story. Our fascia, healthy feet and more are also to be taken care of if we want to age healthy and joyfully.

During our aging journey we already might have noticed some changes in our bodies. We’re loosing height, we might experience a bit more stiffness, more aches and pains etc. But also we can feel sometimes a bit more vulnerable, maybe experiencing feelings of loneliness, anxiety or stress.

I’ve experienced these feelings myself and for me, mindful yoga and TRE were very helpful to address these feelings and to build more emotional strength and resilience.

My mindful yoga aging classes are focussed just on both aspects:

  1. We’ll practise yoga, respecting where we are at this moment, meaning that we’re recognising our bodies limitations and work with softness to explore our boundaries. In our practise we nourish every tiny part of our external body and our internal body as well.

  2. Through practicing mindfulness in our yoga sessions, we’ll learn a deep appreciation and self-love, we’ll notice our thinking patterns, by which we’re getting stronger and more resilient from within.

In these mindful yoga classes, we’ll need an open mind

Two blocks or books

A yoga strap

A small cushion

One or two blankets

And anything which makes you feel comfortable.

TRE™ (trauma and tension releasing exercises)

BOOK YOUR TRE SESSION, private or a group teaching session and let's start shaking

Tension and trauma releasing exercises, TRE™ is a method to help let go of deep-seated muscles tension, we often build up by fatigue, stress and/or trauma. These exercises are a safe and natural way to release stuck emotions/energy we often hold in our bodies. TRE™ can even loosen up places where massage can’t reach.

Yoga and TRE™ are going hand in hand, and for me, that was an amazing discovery. Many of us are already familiar with the benefits of yoga, but most of us have never heard about TRE.

So what is TRE™?

TRE™ is a safe way to release tension in our bodies, tension that may have been building up over the years. However, TRE™ is also a helpful tool to deal with the daily things in life we bump into, and that could give us feelings of unease, fear, frustration, irritation etc. If we take care of our bodies in a simple, effective way and if we are able not to let something small build up to something big, how much easier would our lives then be? The aim of TRE™ is to soften the body, to release these held tensions and to bring the body back to its natural state, which means into a balance where all systems are working in harmony. With TRE™, we are not going into the reason why the tension was built up; we’ll only work with the body, which makes it safe to practise.

TRE™ Infused Yoga sessions

BOOK YOUR TRE™ infused Yoga SESSION, private or a group session and enjoy the release of tension and loosening the body

Testimonials

"I had the opportunity to try a private yoga session with a wonderful Mary, and I can't emphasize enough how much of a difference it made in my practice. What stood out most was how Mary guided me with patience and clarity. She offered gentle corrections, helping me align my body properly  and maximize the benefits of each pose.  I was  impressed with the focus on stillness of each posture. Mary guided me through each posture that helped calm my mind and connect my body with each movement. There were moments during the practice where I felt incredibly grounded and present, and I could feel tension melting away—both physically and mentally. This personalized yoga experience made me realize just how much more I could do when I had someone guiding me with intention and care. After the session I felt calm and more centered. What truly made this class special was the sense of connection I felt with myself. It was a reminder of why yoga is such a powerful practice, not only for the body but for the mind and soul as well. I highly recommend a personal yoga session with Mary to anyone who is looking to deepen their practice or address specific needs."

"I did a discovery TRE session with Mary and it was amazing. Her calming and soothing energy is what I loved the most about her. Even though it was online, I could feel her presence and she held a beautiful and safe space to allow my body to release some deep seated emotions and stress I didn’t know I had! After the session, I felt really connected to my body, way more calm and present, and my mind was clear and quiet (a state I am not used to!) She gave me the confidence and motivation to continue and explore TRE more and I can’t wait to have more sessions with her and also attending her group classes! Thank you Mary for sharing this fantastic practice with me 🙏❤️ "

-Pauline

"I just want to let you know how much I benefitted from your TRE session. As someone with hyper-mobility I have stiff joints. A side effect of perimenopause for me was increased anxiety, however, because of stiff joints, I find massage painful. I have found TRE is the best therapy for relaxing tense muscles and it is now my go to therapy. "

-Càit

"Thank you so much for giving me my TRE lesson. I found it fabulous the way you took your time with me to get the movements correct so that I could achieve a maximum effect from our first class. You have a wonderful way that immediately puts one at easy to get the most from the class. I do hope you will be able to run more of these classes as I feel it would benefit lots of people. I will definitely be joining you again in October if that is your next class and I will pass on to some friends so hopefully more will join us. Also I feel that although I do yoga one can join you if you have no knowledge of yoga postures as you explained everything so wonderfully and in such explicit detail. "
